Republican presidential candidate John McCain will be in Inez today as part of a tour of places largely forgotten by previous campaigns. The tour--which also includes Katrina-ravaged New Orleans--is a part of a strategy to focus on the economy.
The visit to Inez comes on the 44th anniversary of LBJ's visit to Inez to launch the "War on Poverty." The usual leftist suspects--steel and mining unions--will be protesting McCain in Inez.
John McCain's strategy to focus on the economy is a plus--it will help bring conservative and moderate Democrats concerned about the economy to McCain in the fall.
