In what one blogger called an "instant classic," the University of Kentucky Wildcats clinched their 26th SEC title in overtime over Mississippi State 75-74. The Cats will get an automatic bid--their 51st appearance--to the 2010 NCAA Men's Division I Basketball Tournament. The brackets for the tourney will be revealed tonight at 6pm EDT on CBS. Drudge: Letterman mocks McCain
David Letterman is obviously in the tank for Obama. Drudge has the scoop:
David Letterman tells audience that McCain called him today to tell him he had to rush back to DC to deal with the economy. Then in the middle of the taping Dave got word that McCain was, in fact just down the street being interviewed by Katie Couric. Dave even cut over to the live video of the interview, and said, "Hey Senator, can I give you a ride home?" Earlier in the show, Dave kept saying, "You don't suspend your campaign. This doesn't smell right. This isn't the way a tested hero behaves." And he joked: "I think someone's putting something in his Metamucil." "He can't run the campaign because the economy is cratering? Fine, put in your second string quarterback, Sarah Palin. Where is she?" "What are you going to do if you're elected and things get tough? Suspend being president? We've got a guy like that now!"
In fact, McCain did put his country first today by asking debate organizers to postpone the first debate, which was to be about foreign policy. Despite the fact that there is a global economy, the ailing US economy--and what we do about it--comes first at this time. Letterman needs to realize that our future depends on what happens the next few weeks.

Couric Buzz Continues
The Katie Couric rumor mill continues. Sources tell the New York Daily News that a trade could be in the works--Anderson Cooper would move from CNN to anchor the CBS Evening News while Couric would move to CNN--possibly replacing Larry King. Meanwhile, TMZ.com claims that Couric will leave CBS on her own terms--but not before the election.
No matter what happens, this is just another example of the Big Three's failure to lure younger viewers and its failure to balance news.

Bye, Bye Katie???
The Wall Street Journal is reporting tonight that Katie Couric will leave the last-place CBS Evening News "well before her contract expires in 2011--possibly soon after the presidential inauguration early next year." CBS is denying the rumors.
This comes during a hard time for the big three evening newscasts, which have been gradually losing viewership to cable news channels and online news and blog sites, and for CBS in particular, which recently announced layoffs at its owned and operated stations due to low ratings and declining ad revenue.

Drew Carey gets high marks for first year on "Price Is Right"
Variety has a great article about my favorite game show, "The Price Is Right." Even though the show's ratings have dropped about 15% since the retirement of Bob Barker, the show continues to be popular with new host Drew Carey. The million-dollar primetime specials are a huge hit, with three $1 million prizes given away thus far this year.
